Inquiry: Roles and Responsibilities at Marina View School

Image
As part of our Mahi Tahi Inquiry unit, Room 33 has been learning about communities. We have discussed what a community is, what communities do and what roles and responsibilities people have in different communities. Room 33 were very interested in schools as a community. We talked about the different roles and responsibilities people have at a school and how it relates to Mahi Tahi. To extend our knowledge on communities we decided on two questions to research: What does a principal at a school do? Who chooses who the principal is? We emailed Mr Young these questions and today he came and talked to Room 33 about his role and responsibilities at Marina View School. Room 33 had lots of extra questions for him and we really enjoyed Mr Young coming to talk to us.

The 5 Senses

Last week we were focusing on the five senses (see, taste, feel, hear and smell). as part of our Descriptive Writing unit. On Wednesday we looked at the taste sense. Room 33 got to taste different foods such as lemons, apples and marshmallows. We then used adjectives or "WOW" words to describe the different foods in our writing.

Today we had Coach C teach Room 33 some new basketball skills. She taught Room 33 'stuck in the mud', 'octopus' and 'buddy tag', while learning how to dribble a basketball at the same time. Room 33 has three more sessions with the Breakers basketball coaches and are really looking forward to what we can learn next.
